I hereby give My sanction to the Law for Emer gency Measures concerning the Compensation, etc. of Judges for which the concurrence of the Imperial Diet has been obtained and cause the same to be promulgated.

Article 1. For the time being, the compensation which the President of the Supreme Court receives shall be equivalent in amount to the salary which the Prime Minister receives, and that which a Judge of the Supreme Court receives shall be equivalent in amount to the salary which a Minister of State receives.
Article 2. The compensation which the President of a High Court receives shall, for the time being, be determined by the Supreme Court. This compensation shall be greater than the salary of a Vice-Minister of State, and less than that of a Minister of State. However, the person assigned to the President of Tokyo High Court shall, for the time being, receive compensation greater than that of Presidents of any other High Courts, and the amount shall be determined by the Supreme Court.
Article 3. The amount of compensation of a Judge newly assigned to a High Court shall, for the time being, be within the range of the Salary which an ordinary first rank official receives.
The amount of compensation of a Judge newly assigned to a District Court shall, for the time being, be within the range of the salary which an ordinary first or second rank official receives.
The amount of compensation of a newly assigned Assistant Judge shall, for the time being, be within the range of the salary which an ordinary second rank official receives.
The amount of compensation of a Judge of a Summary Court shall, for the time being, be within the range of the salary of an ordinary second rank official receives.
Article 4. The Supreme Court shall determine the grade of each compensation within the limits prescribed in the preceding Article.
Article 5. The compensation which each Judge of inferior courts other than Presidents of High Courts receive shall be determined by the Supreme Court.
Article 6. In case where a judge has retired from office or died, the total sum of compensation for the month in which such event has arisen shall be paid.
Article 7. Allowances other than compensation shall for the time being, be paid similarly to general government officials.
Article 8. The sum of allowances which a judicial apprentice receives shall, for the time being, be fixed by the Supreme Court.
The provisions of Articles 5 and 6 shall apply with the necessary modifications to allowances mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
In addition to allowances mentioned in the first paragraph, allowances similar to those paid to general government officials may, for the time being, be paid to a judicial apprentice.
Article 9. Detailed regulations concerning compensation of the judge, allowances of the judicial apprentice and so forth shall be prescribed by the Supreme Court.
Supplementary Provisions:
The present Law shall come into force as from the day of the enforcement of the Court Organization Law.
A judge who is in office at the time of the enforcement of the present Law, with the exception of a person who is appointed judge in accordance with the provisions of Article 6, paragraph 2, Article 79, paragraph 1 or Article 80, paragraph 1 of the Constitution of Japan, shall receive the compensation equivalent in amount to his salary paid at the time of the enforcement of the present Law and allowances other than the compensation similar to those paid to general government officials.
The present Law shall lose its effect as from January 1, 1948.
