SUBJECT | Establishment of Telephone Service Between the United States and Tokyo. |
1. The establishment by 11 January 1946 of telephone service between points whithin the United States and Tokyo by the Imperial Japanese Government is desired.
2. This service shall be available only to military personnel and civilian personnel accredited to this theater and stationed in Japan. Service shall be for the placing of personal telephone calls on a prepaid basis only to any point within the United States. Until notified to the contrary by this office no incoming calls from the United States will be accepted. All calls will be approved in advance by Special Service Officers of Army, corps, divisions, wings, fighter command or other duly authorized officers designated by this Headquarters.
3. A letter from the Board of Communication to this Headquarters dated 28 November 1945 supplemented and amended by letter from Board of Communications to this Headquarters dated 5 January 1946 advises of proposed rates for telephone service, the division of tolls and methods of settling accounts. This Headquarters has no objection at this time to the rates, division of tolls and procedures proposed. They shall remain in effect for the present and will not be changed without prior approval of this Headquarters.
4. The authorized Japanese transmitting frequencies for the radio link between Tokyo and San Francisco are 7780KC, 15860KC and 18910KC with a maximum power of 20 kilowatts.
