Subject | Recovery and Re-Positioning of Japanese Geodetic Survey Monuments. |
1. It is desired that the Imperial Japanese Government initiate a program of recovering geodetic survey monuments in Kyushu, Shikoku, Honshu, and Hokkaido, and of re-positioning all such monuments as have been damaged or destroyed. For purposes of this memorandum only, geodetic survey monuments shall be construed as pertaining to all benchmarks established by precise spirit levelling and all triangulation stations of third or higher order accuracy.
2. In connection with this recovery program, it is desired that this headquarters be furnished a control card, in Japanese, for each monument. Such cards will bear the following information:
a. The order of station
b. Geographic coordinates
c. Elevation and the order of elevation
d. Condition
e. Sketch
f. Description of its location, to assist future recovery
g. Azimuths and back azimuths to all visible stations.
3. The target dates for the completion of this program are as follows:
a. Recovery of momuments in the Nagoya Plain and the western half of Kanto Plain - 31 March 1946.
b. Recovery of all monuments in the four main islands - 30 June 1947.
c. Re-positioning of all monuments in the four main islands - 31 December 1948.
4. The Office of the Chief Engineer, this headquarters, is the proper staff section to supervise this program. The agency designated by the Japanese Government to accomplish this work will establish contact with this headquarters without delay in order that the program may be effectively initiated.
