SUBJECT | Termination of Repatriation for Ryukyuans |
1. Reference is made to memorandum for the Japanese Government,
file AG 370.05 (7 May 46) GC, SCAPIN 927, dated 7 May 1946, as amended,
and memorandum for the Japanese Government file AG 014.33 (14 Feb 47) GA,
SCAPIN 1527, dated 14 February 1947.
2. Effective 15 March 1949 the Supreme Commander for the Allied
Powers Ryukyuan repatriation program will be terminated. Applications
for repatriation to the Ryukyu Islands will not be accepted after 2400 hours,
14 March 1949. Current Ryukyuan repatriation procedures will remain in
effect until all applications received prior to 15 March 1949 have been
processed and applicants duly shipped.
3. After 15 March 1949. individual Ryukyuans may apply for permit for exit
from Japan to travel at their own expense to the Ryukyus for compassionate
reasons only. These applications will be submitted through local Military
Government authorities Commanding General, Eighth Army, for approval.
4 . These applications will contain the following information:
a. Name.
b. Place and date of birth.
c. Address in Japan.
d. Present occupation.
e. Statement of the compassionate reasons for travel,
f. Destination (address).
g. Desired date of departure.
h. Probable port and means of departure.
i. Any pertinent information which may have a bearing on the case.
5. Illegal Ryukyuan entrants to Japan will be apprehended and deported
by the Japanese Government on available Civilian Marchant Marine Committee
shipping.
