MEMORANDUM FOR

IMPERIAL JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.

SUBJECT

Representation of Japanese Interests Abroad.

1. Reference is made to paragraph 1C, second sentence of memorandum, General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, AG 091.112 (25 Oct 45) GC, (SCAPIN-189), 25 October 1945, to the Imperial Japanese Government, subject: “Transfer of Custody of Diplomatic and Consular Property and Archives”.
2. In order to clarify the representation of Japanese interests abroad, the Japanese Government is directed, on or before 25 May 1946 to furnish in writing to General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers a clear and precise expression of intention with regard to the appointment of a protecting power or powers to exercise routine functions for the protection of Japanese interests abroad. Full details will also be furnished of all existing arrangements in this connection.
