Subject | Currency Carried into Japan by Japanese Nationals Repatriating from Korea. |
1. Reference is made to C. L. O. Memorandum No. 1692 (RG) dated 11 April 1946, subject: “Bank of Japan Notes Carried by Japanese Repatriates from Korea.”
2. Permission is granted to the Imperial Japanese Government to make payment against duly certified receipts for Bank of Japan notes taken up from Japanese repatriates in Korea, such payments to be within limitations prescribed by Memorandum for the Imperial Japanese Government from General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, file AG 370.05 (16 Mar. 46) GC (SCAPIN-822), dated 16 March 1946, subject: “Repartriation,” Annex VI paragraph 2 a. (1).
3. Receipts will be taken up by the Imperial Japanese Government and held in safe custody.

1. CLO Memorandum No. 1692 (RG), dated 11 April 1946, subject: "Bank of Japan Notes carried by Japanese Repatriates from Korea,"requested permission for Japanese nationals, repatriating to Japan from Korea, to carry Bank of Japan notes. Failing this, permission was requested for authorization to make payment against duly certified receipts for Bank of Japan notes taken up from Japanese repatriates leaving Korea.
2. Bank of Japan currency brought in by Japanese nationals is limited to civilians ¥1,000, officers ¥500 and enlisted men ¥200. (Memorandum AG 370.05 (16 Mar 46) GC (SCAPIN-822), dated 16 March 1946, subject: "Repatriation," Annex VI, paragraph 2a. (1).
3. The Imperial Japanese Government is granted permission to make payments against duly certified receipts up to the limits set forth in paragraph 2 above.
4. Adjustment of accounts between the Military Government in Korea and the Imperial Japanese Government will have to be made at a later date.
5. The interests of USAFIK have been considered. This action does not affect Korea.
6. This is an administrative matter. Surveillance by the Eighth Army is not necessary.
