SUBJECT

Disposal of Traveler's Checks and United States Currency brought in by Japanese Repatriates

1. Reference is made to C.L.O. Memorandum No. 298 (5.1), dated 20 January 1946, subject as above, requesting that traveller’s checks and currency expressed in United States dollars brought into Japan by Japanese nationals being repatriated from the United States be negotiated en bloc at the offices of the Yokohama Specie Bank, Ltd., and that the dollar funds so acquired be utilized for the payment of future imports from abroad.
2. This request is disapproved.
