| SUBJECT | Destruction of Former Japanese Naval Vessels. |
1. Reference is made to:
a. Memorandum, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, file AG 045.93 (30 Apr 46)GD (SCAPIN 910) subject: "Destruction of Former Japanese Naval Vessels".
b. Memorandum, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, File AG 386.3 (6 Jun 46)GD (SCAPIN 1002), subject: "Destruction of Former Japanese Naval Vessels".
2. Supplementing the above memoranda, certain additional ships will be released to the Japanese Government from time to time for destruction by scrapping or by other method approved by the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers.
3. Vessels released for scrapping will be designated by Commander Naval Activities, Japan. Destruction in each case will be accomplished I within six (6) months of release to the Japanese Government, unless otherwise specified by Commander Naval Activities, Japan.
4. The provisions of paragraph 3 of reference 1a above will be complied with by the Japanese Government in carrying out the directive.
5. When specified by Commander Naval Activities, Japan, detailed accounting shall be kept of the scrapping operation, as follows:
a. Costs of scrapping.
b. Tonnage of various grades of ferrous scrap recovered.
c. Weights of nonferrous scrap recovered. (Brass, Bronze, Copper, Lead).
d. Proceeds from the sale of scrap, and value of unsold portion.
e. Proceeds from the sale of equipment and machinery, and value of any unsold equipment and machinery.
Within sixty days of completion of scrapping of each vessel specified, detailed records containing the above listed information will be furnished to Commander Naval Activities, Japan.
