SUBJECT | Diversion of Japanese Manned Repatriation Shipping Form Karatsu. |
1. Reference is made to Memorandum, General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, file AG 370.05 (23 Jan 46) GC, subject: "Reception Centers in Japan for Processing Repatriates."
2. Japanese sweeping of the Karatsu Channel, originally scheduled to be completed 1 March 1946, has been delayed due to weather. Estimated date Karatsu will be open for Japanese manned shipping is now 30 April 1946.
3. Until Karatsu is reported safe for Japanese manned shipping, repatriation shipping scheduled to disembark repatriates at Karatsu will be diverted as follows:
a. LST's now on the Shanhai - Karatsu shuttle will use Hakata as their terminal port in Japan.
b. LST's now on the Tangku - Katatsu shuttle will use Senzaki as their terminal port in Japan.
4. Approximately 1,200 repatriates daily, in addition to the normal incoming rate, will disembark at each of the ports of Hakata and Senzaki.
5. The Imperial Japanese Government will be prepared to receive and process the increased number of repatriates to disembark at Hakata and Senzaki.
