SUBJECT | Request for Return of Documents Taken from Japanese Army Hygienic Material Arsenal |
1. Reference C.L.O. Memorandum No. 825(1.2). 2 December 1945, requesting return of certain documents taken from Japanese Army Hygienic Material Arsenal by United States Army personnel.
2. Request for return of documents is denied.
3. If information necessary in the settlement of business of the Arsenal can be obtained by inspection of the documents in their present location in the vaults of The Bank of Japan, permission to make such inspection will be granted to representatives of the Arsenal upon application to this Headquarters.

MEMO FOR RECORD: (SCAPIN - 535)
1. C.L.O. Memo. No. 828 (1.2), 2 Dec 45, subject: "Request for Return of Documents Taken Away from the Army Hygienic Material Arsenal," asks return of 93 listed books which were seized by 2d Lt. Janson, 8th Cav. on 2 Nov 45. Requests states that records are necessary for inspection of accounts of Arsenal scheduled for 14 Dec.
2. Capt. Bartow in office of Eighth Army Custodian in Bank of Japan vaults says in telephonic conversation that he is sure that books are in safekeeping there, but that he is unable to identify them. Is willing to make records available for inspection of Arsenal representatives are accompanied by representative from this Division.
3. No concurrence necessary.
