MEMORANDUM FOR

IMPERIAL JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.

THROUGH

Central Liaison Office, Tokyo.

SUBJECT

Formosan Repatriation.

1. Reference is made to Memorandum this headquarters, file AG 370.05 (17 Dec 45) GC, dated 17 December 1945, subject as above.
2. This headquarters has been informed that:
a. Movement of Formosans to authorized ports for repatriation is not being executed as directed in the above mentioned reference.
b. Approximately 1,000 Formosans in the Kyoto area and some 3,000 Formosans in Kyushu, including about 300 at Hakata, are awaiting repatriation.
c. Repatriation vessels in Kure - Manila shuttles, authorized to be diverted to Takao Formosa on outgoing voyage, are available for outloading Formosans as rapidly as they can be assembled at Kure.
3. The Imperial Japanese Government will:
a. Move these Formosans in the Kyoto area to Kure as soon as possible.
b. Make arrangements without delay for evacuating up to 3,000 Formosans in Kyushu on the Nissho Maru which is scheduled to depart Hakata for Kiirun Formosa within a week.
c. Accelerate movement of other Formosans to authorized ports for repatriation to insure that capacity loads are available for embarkation on each vessels set up to carry repatriates from Japan to Formosa.
