MEMORANDUM FOR

IMPERIAL JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.

THROUGH

Central Liaison Office, Tokyo.

SUBJECT

Formosans Encamped in Vicinity of Atsugi Airfield.

1. Reference is made to memorandum for Imperial Japanese Government from this headquarters dated 13 December 1945, file AG 370.05 (13 Dec 45) GC, subject: "Formosan Repatriation."
2. a. It is reported by Commanding General Eighth United States Army that 7,600 Formosans, encamped in the vicinity of Atsugi Airfield, have been the source of considerable trouble to the local military authorities and constitute a potential threat to the security of the airfield.
b. The Choun Maru is scheduled to depart from Uraga 17 December for Formosa, details are contained in memorandum referred to in paragraph 1 above. Additional shipping to Formosa will be scheduled in the near future.
3. The Imperial Japanese Government will:
a. Give first priority to the evacuation of the 7,600 Formosans now encamped in the vicinity of Atsugi Airfield in their plans for repatriation of Formosans in accordance with shipping schedules as published by SCAJAP.
b. Embark 2,000 of the subject 7,000 Formosans now encamped in vicinity of Atsugi Airfield on the Choun Maru Scheduled to depart from Uraga 17 December (same instructions given orally to Mr. Ushiba, C. L. O. on 15 December).
c. Take immediate steps to exercise firmer control over Formosans now encamped in vicinity of Atsugi Airfield until their evacuation is completed.
