SUBJECT | Closing of the Ujina (Kure Area) Reception Center. |
1. Reference is made to memorandum from the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, file AG 370.05 (7 May 46)GC, (SCAPIN 927), dated 7 May 1946, subject: Repatriation, as amended.
2. Due to a decrease in the rate of repatriation from Southeast Asia there will be no necessity for a reception center in the Kure Area after 30 October 1947.
3. The Japanese Government will:
a. On 12 September 1947, reduce the capacity of the Ujina (Kure Area) Reception Center, with a commensurate reduction of operating personnel and facilities, to process 500 incoming repatriates per day. The center will no longer process out .going repatriates.
b. Institute the closing of the Ujina (Kure Area) Reception Center on 20 October 1947, completing the operation by 30 October 1947.
c. After 20 October 1947, be prepared on 10 days' notice by the General Officer Commanding, British Commonwealth Occupation Force, to receive and process at Kure, up to 50 Japanese repatriates in one day, as they are repatriated on British shipping, utilizing local Japanese medical and other personnel.
d. Furnish the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers:
(1) A report by 17 September 1947 concerning the action taken in compliance with the provisions of paragraph 3 a above.
(2) A report by 7 November 1947 concerning the action taken in compliance with provisions of paragraph 3 b above.
4. The provisions of reference paragraph 1 above, which are in conflict with the provisions of this memorandum, are superseded hereby.!
